Associate Professor Brian K Owler is an Australian trained neurosurgeon. He offers a comprehensive neurosurgical service covering both paediatric and adult conditions. He is trained in cranial neurosurgical conditions as well as spinal disorders.
Special interests of A/Prof Owler include tumours of the brain and spine, complex spinal disorders such as basilar invagination, hydrocephalus and pseudotumourcerebri.
A/Prof Brian K Owler is based at Westmead and is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Children's Hospital at Westmead, Westmead Hospital, Westmead Private, Sydney Adventist Hospital at Wahroonga and Norwest Private Hospital.
A/Prof Owler has a PhD from the University of Sydney and spent 18 months performing research at the Academic Neurosurgery Unit at the University of Cambridge. He is Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Sydney. Clinical research topics include investigating new treatments for the management of hydrocephalus and pseudotumorcerebri. He is a member of the Board of the International Society for Hydrocephalus and CSF Disorders. Currently he is conducting a randomised controlled trial of deep brain stimulation surgery for cerebral palsy.
A/Prof Owler is also a member of Council of the NSW AMA representing surgeons as well as the Federal Council of the AMA. He is Chair of the NSW AMA Hospital Practice Committee and a member of the Westmead Senior Clinical Council and the Westmead Medical Staff Council Executive. He is a member of the COAG Expert Panel on Emergency Department and Elective Surgery Performance.
